Travel tips
1. Visa Requirements:
By now, we hope you have secured the necessary visa requirements. As a reminder, please double-check whether you require a visa for entry into the Faroe Islands. Schengen visas do not cover the Faroe Islands – and a separate visa will therefore be required. Click here for more information.
2. Arrival & Transport:
Upon landing at Vágar Airport, we recommend taking a taxi to Tórshavn, where most accommodations are located. The bus shuttles are not quite reliable, so a taxi is the best option to ensure a smooth journey. It. may be useful to also pre-book a taxi. Additionally, car rentals are also available and may provide more flexibility for exploring the islands during your free time. Click here for more information.
3. Accommodation:
If you haven’t already booked, visit our Travel and Hotel section for recommended stays.
4. Weather & Dress Code:
The Faroe Islands’ weather can be unpredictable. Layered clothing, waterproof gear, and sturdy walking shoes are essential. For networking events, business or smart casual attire is recommended. Field trips may involve outdoor activities, so dress comfortably and bring a light backpack.
5. Networking Opportunities:
The Congress programme includes numerous networking sessions. Be sure to attend the Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening, where business or smart casual attire is recommended. For the Banquet Dinner on Thursday night, a business or smart casual dress code is also recommended. Additionally, take advantage of the many coffee breaks during the day programme to get to know other attendees.
6. Field Trips:
We’ve arranged exciting field trips to explore local water management practices and the unique culture of the Faroe Islands. Please ensure you are equipped for walking and possibly wet conditions. Note that you need to be registered to attend the field trips. Click here to learn more about the field trips.
7. Currency & Payments:
The local currency is the Danish krona (DKK). Credit cards are widely accepted, but having some cash on hand is recommended.
8. Connectivity:
Wi-Fi is available at most hotels and conference venues. However, mobile data can be spotty in remote areas, so download maps and any needed information in advance.
9. Local Time & Adaptation: The local time zone is Western European Time, GMT+1 (During the summertime). We suggest arriving a day early to adjust to the time difference and settle in before the congress begins.
10. Packing Essentials: Bring a universal power adapter, as outlets in the Faroe Islands use the European standard (Type C and Type K). We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle, as tap water is safe to drink.
11. Cultural Etiquette:
The Faroese are warm and welcoming. A simple greeting in their language, “Góðan dag,” will be appreciated.
We look forward to your participation in the congress and hope you enjoy all that the Faroe Islands have to offer!
